Recruit Handbook & How to Rank Up

Welcome to the 95th. Here is everything you need to know about promotions, schedules, and expectations.

Promotions & Points

You get promoted with a points system. Each battle you attend adds 50 points. Stay for 1-2 minutes until the audit is taken. Excellent performance yields an extra 10-65 points. Promotions to Fencible happen daily after battle; Regular and above happen every Monday.

Rank Events Needed
Lance Corporal+ 40
Kingsman 25
Private 15
Regular 3
Fencible 1

Battles & Schedules

Rally is 30 minutes prior to battle start. This is when the code is released and practice begins. Lines play with muskets; skirmishers (skirms) are equipped with rifles.

Uniforms in Barraux

The only way to get a uniform is from someone with officer permissions (Sgt. or higher), typically asked for during rally. The Fencible uniform has a white coat. The common uniform is the green Lights uniform with gray pants. Chosen Men wear green pants. Regulars and Kingsmen use the Private uniform.

Basic Shooting Guide

Bullet Behavior and Tactics

This guide serves to educate the rankers on how to shoot, where to shoot, and when to shoot. Shooting in the Napoleonic Wars is extremely situational. The terrain is constantly changing, distances shift mid fight, and elevation plays a bigger role than most people realize. If you're not sure where to aim, aiming at the top left or right shoulder is a good habit to pick up.

Aiming and Distances

Studs Aim At Notes
50 Thighs / Feet Drop is minimal. Point-blank by Napoleonic standards. Don't overthink it, just shoot.
100 Waist / Lower Torso Drop is becoming a factor, but this is still bread and butter range for most fights.
150 Torso / Center Mass A full head length of drop means aiming low gets you nothing. Let the bullet find its mark.
200 Upper Torso / Neck Close to two full head lengths of drop. This is where the skill gap really starts showing.
250+ Head / Above Head 3.5 studs or more of drop. Unreliable unless you're volley firing with a group.

Note: For long-distance shots, remove your bayonet (Press F+B) to get 8% more accuracy. Put it back on when enemies get close.

Angles and Environment

  • Shooting at angles: Shooting downhill means less drop than you'd expect, shooting uphill means more.
  • Sideways Angles: Bullets will curve slightly instead of flying straight. Shift your crosshair to point a little bit to the left or right side of their body (the "edges") to allow the bullet to naturally curve into the center.

Tactical Playstyles

Playing to Top Frag (Aggressive Action)

Take an angle closer to the end of the line. People usually tend to look left when reloading, making it easier to shoot. Using hitboxes effectively secures more kills and loses less morale.

Playing for the Win (Regimental Support)

Constantly scan the area to know where the enemy line's flag is. If you see it drop, follow up the moment they pick it up. Shooting the right person can help your line win.

Conduct on the Line

Listen to the person leading. Do chants, call out flag drops. Scan enemy lines and shoot the person aiming in or finishing their reload—this denies the enemy team a kill while gaining more points for your line.
